Using Lazer Surgery
There are some causes of snoring that cannot be treated by use of a SnorBan. One of these is where the snoring occurs at the back of the tongue.
This can be treated by one of the following of these two surgical treatments.
1. Controlled scarring, using radio frequency energy or Coblation-therapy to deliberately scar and so to stiffen the back of the tongue. The immediate success rate is about 75%, but the longer term results are still little known. The disadvantages of treatment are:
Mild pain on swallowing for several weeks.
The cost of the treatment – about € 1.200 .-. which is yet not always reimbursed by the insurer.
A feeling that there is something in the throat.
2. Part of the back of the tongue is removed using a laser to create more space in the airway behind the tongue. Long-term results of this are still unknown. Disadvantages of treatment are:
Swallowing is painful for two weeks.
A deterioration of taste for anything from a few weeks to a few months.
Both of these are painful. So use of a SnorBan mouthpiece should be considered before succumbing to this form of surgery.
